Care Guide

How long do Deorum Aetherna candles last?

The burn time of Deorum Aetherna candles varies according to their size:

  • 70 g candles: approximately 20 hours

  • 190 g candles: approximately 60 hours

  • 300 g candles: approximately 75 hours

  • 600 g candles: approximately 90 hours

  • Indoor or outdoor porcelain-vessel candles (1500 g): approximately 120 hours

Please note that burn time is closely linked to proper candle care.

Usage tips:

  • At first use, we recommend burning the candle for 2 to 3 hours, until the surface wax becomes fully liquid. This will allow the candle to burn evenly each time.

  • Never leave a candle unattended or burn it for more than 3 consecutive hours.

  • Always recenter the wick after each use. This ensures even burning and prevents the wick from moving too close to the glass, which could cause overheating.

  • Trim the wick regularly to a length of 3–5 mm. This helps the candle last longer and prevents smoke or blackened wick fragments from falling into the melted wax.

  • A candle is finished when only 5 mm of wax remains or when the metal base holding the wick becomes visible. At this point, the candle should not be relit.

My Deorum Aetherna candle is not burning evenly, or forms a “tunnel” — is this normal?

  • To ensure that your candle burns evenly, it is essential to let it burn for 2 to 3 hours during its first use, allowing the wax to fully melt across the surface. It is also important to avoid burning the candle in areas exposed to drafts.
  • We recommend trimming the wick to a height of 3–5 mm and recentering it after each use (while the wax is still liquid).

Here is a simple and quick method to remove leftover wax once the candle can no longer be used:
  • Allow the candle to cool completely, then place it in the freezer overnight.

  • The next day, take the candle out of the freezer and let it rest at room temperature for an hour. Turn the candle upside down and tap the bottom with the palm of your hand to release the remaining wax, or use the handle of a spoon if necessary.

  • If the wick is still attached to the bottom, use pliers to remove both the wick and its metal base.

  • Finish by wiping the inside of the glass with a damp, soapy cloth.

  • If you don’t wish to repurpose the glass containers, give them a new life by placing them in the appropriate recycling bins.

How are Deorum Aetherna candles made?

  • Deorum Aetherna candles are luxury artisanal creations crafted in Switzerland.
  • Noble, rare, and precious, the raw materials used in each fragrance are selected with the utmost care. Since every fragrance concentrate reacts differently to heat, our artisans work with meticulous precision to find the perfect balance between concentrate, wax, and wick.
  • To ensure optimal diffusion of the fragrance, each candle is the result of a unique blend of high-quality waxes, with both the material and diameter of the wick carefully chosen according to the candle’s size.
  • The creation of each candle takes two full days and involves eight distinct steps, all of which are still carried out entirely by hand.
